Sony continues to march ahead with its favorite Bravia Xbr series of Hdtvs by adding new features and improving the existing ones. They seem to have run out of ideas in the naming department, as they plainly recycle the Xbr name with a new number after it for each new model. The most recent model with the full range of sizes is now the Bravia Xbr9.
The Xbr9 Hdtvs come in the thorough 52, 46, 40 and 32 inch sizes, just like the Xbr models 1 through 8. A new innovation in this set is an integrated internet module (inside the set, no external box) that allows you to start watching Amazon On-Demand and YouTube videos right away.
Another innovation in the Xbr9 is a 240Hz frame rate. plainly put, this means that the set is capable of changing the image on the screen 240 times per second, as opposed to 60 times, which was the thorough for Hdtv sets about three years ago.
The 240Hz frame rate is helpful because it allows spirited objects to go very smoothly across the screen, without stuttering or jumping. But since Tv shows are normally shot at 60 Hz (and movies at 24Hz), the Bravia Xbr9 accomplishes this feat by creating new images in in the middle of the frames, so the request for retrial looks continuous!
Another principal upgrade in the Xbr9 is the incremental improvement of the picture by using a cold cathode fluorescent backlight. This gives the images a petite more color depth and "pop" than the previous Bravia sets did. Every new set in the Bravia Xbr series gets just a petite better than the previous one.
